It just occurred to me that one of the perks of living in Latin America is that everyone knows how to spell my name!
I have never been able to do that—just say my full name without spelling it out—in my life *. I still can’t get used to it—I start spelling it out, and they just say “don’t worry, I got it.” Awesome.
An unfortunate implication is that, here, Sebastian isn’t a very unique name. Back home, everyone remembers my name because it’s not mainstream. Here… Well, let’s just say that I get called “Santiago” and “Santy” a lot. Well played, universe.
Stay tuned for more hard hitting news.
- I know it’s perfectly reasonable that people in the states can’t spell my last name. I certainly can’t spell a Polish last name just from hearing it, so I can’t very well blame someone for not grokking mine. But, still, it’s nice to not worry about it here. People have been butchering mine my whole life.
