Plantains, a cow, and a menu

Today I made my first acceptable batch of tostones (they call them patacones here). I cut the bunch of plantains off a tree that's maybe 20 feet from my front door. Pretty awesome.

This is the cow that was eating her own lunch just outside my window as I cooked mine. I can often see her from the bathroom window as well. In a way, you could say that she's my cooking and peeing buddy.

I have a confession. I didn't take this picture; my fellow volunteer Lindsay did. But I just saw it and it's too awesome not to share with the world.

The menu translation of "papa frita" as 'fried pope' reminded me of a good friend's sarcastic translation of "santo papa" as the 'holy potato' Thanks for sharing the pics!
