Here are some pictures of my community. I will take more later, but I’m still wary of flashing my new camera too much—it’s worth what most people here make in a month.
This is Downtown. The blue building houses the largest store and the VP of the junta parroquial (you will recall that a parish here is equivalent to a county state-side), who I get along well with. As you can see, there isn’t much foot traffic in the early afternoon.
The park, and houses behind it. See if you can spot mine (hint: behind the church). This part of the park isn’t used much; the other half is where the basketball court slash indor court is.
The other half of the park at night. This is la cancha de indor (the indoor court). The kids play there pretty much every evening before dinner. Why do they call it indor? Because you play indoor soccer on it. Outdoors. Indor is just another type of soccer with slightly different rules. For example, the goalie can’t pass the ball past halfcourt, throw-ins must bounce within a meter or so of the person throwing, there are no corner kicks.
